SENIOR CARE GUIDANCE & SOLUTIONS

When a senior is unable to participate in the decision about their eldercare options because of a memory-related disorder, they need to rely on loved ones to provide guidance and support. Age & Dignity consultants can provide families with education, support and guidance as they try to determine the best eldercare solution for loved ones who suffer from memory loss.

Memory-related disorders are often classified as dementia, with Alzheimer’s disease as the most noted. With any type of dementia disorder, behaviors are unpredictable and care challenges are unique. Typically, though, as memory loss increases and the ability to perform daily skills declines, caregivers are forced to provide 24/7 supervision, strict medication management, and a secure environment. Cuing and redirection are often needed for even the simplest of tasks. This type of vigilant oversight can be exhausting, stressful, and time-consuming. Due to work schedules and family commitments, families may be unable to provide adequate oversight. For this reason, professional caregivers may be needed to provide supplemental care.

Each person’s experience with dementia is unique and often unpredictable, so a care plan needs to be personalized. Age & Dignity consultants are familiar with a wide variety of services that can provide memory care including: Adult daycare centers, homecare providers, and Alzheimer’s/Memory Care communities. Our consultants can provide you with details of these options, and refer you to a number of providers dependent upon the specific needs of your loved one.

Our consultants will not only provide you with resources that can help you with your loved one’s unique needs but they can also help provide you with emotional support during this most difficult time. As trained caregiver support group facilitators with the Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Pennsylvania, our consultants can provide you with education about memory-related disorders and also direct you to a local support group, hotline, or resource center.
